Since 2019 Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF) continues to provide vital healthy nutrition for vulnerable children supported by For Our Children Foundation

By | News, Без категория | No Comments

In May 2020 Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF) once again kindly donated USD10,000 to provide healthy food for very young, vulnerable children as part of its ‘Nutrition for Zero Hunger’ programme and in partnership with local partner charity, For Our Children Foundation.   Worldwide HNF helped almost 220,000 children in 2020 by providing good nutrition and nutrition education.   In Bulgaria HNF has enabled For Our Children Foundation provide daily meals for six children age under 7 years-old who live in the charity’s Children’s House.  In addition, Foundation’s team continued to teach children about the benefits of good daily nutrition habits and promote good attitudes to healthy food.  In the Children’s House, For Our Children Foundation provides a balanced diet for children as an integral part of their growth and development. The children have been encouraged to try out new diverse healthy foods and they happily participate in the preparation of fresh food together with the carers.   In addition HNF contributed towards the expansion of a new Day Care Centre which opened in September 2020 to enable the provision of good quality, delicious and, varied food for the visiting children. The centre provides a flexible offering of day care provision (all-day, half-day or hourly care) to provide support for children with developmental challenges.   The children are excited to visit the centre for the stimulating, developmental activities and nutritious meals. In the short time it has been opened, the Centre has already set a tradition for the children to participate in various culinary workshops, which include baking of cakes and cookies, and preparing fruit salads and fun foods like pizzas.     The COVID-19 pandemic has really challenged many families with young children and increased the demand on the resources provided by For Our Children Foundation through its Community Support Centres in Sofia and Plovdiv. The loss of a stable income put to the test the care of their children. Fortunately with the support of HNF, these families have benefitted from continued support so that the children’s health was not put at risk.   “In our Children’s House we take care of six children who are without parental care.  Up to September 2020, these were babies and young children up to 3 years.  Now we cater for children from age 3 to 7 years old. We are proud that with us the children learn to love, smile, take their first steps, say their first words, know the letters, count and grow up securely until they are adopted by new parents. A particularly important element in the care of these children is healthy nutrition, for which I thank the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation. HNF’s support since 2019 has enabled our children to grow up healthy.” said Mariana Sokolova, Manager, Children’s House, For Оur Children Foundation.   Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF) is one of the key partners of For Our Children Foundation.  HNF has provided support since 2019 and so far in total more than 400 children have benefitted. The support has included daily nutrition provision for vulnerable children in the Children’s House and Day Care Centre together with support for the Centers for Community Support in Sofia and Plovdiv and the Foster Care Center in…

Nayden grew up at an orphanage. His parents abandoned him when he was a baby. Violeta is a young woman and her parents also abandoned her diagnosed with mild mental retardation.   At first sight, Violeta and Nayden are two people without the chance to feel mother`s love, without the support of a secure and loving environment. The only difference between the two of them and other people with similar faith is that they are parents of Iveta. They decide to have a child because of their endless and strong love for each other. Nayden is next to the future mother during medical exams, he is taking care of everything and they believe that nothing could go wrong. The plan is clear but destiny has got another plan…   Violeta gave birth to a healthy baby and from the beginning, everything is going very well. But in a month Iveta was admitted to the Children’s Clinic with vomiting and weight loss – a sign of malnutrition. Hospital employees give a signal to the CPD – Plovdiv, which causes Violeta to fall into a crisis, to riot, according to doctors. The case is taken over by the social worker Margarita Cherneva, who understands that it is difficult for the mother to be sensitive to the needs of the child, as she herself grew up without a parental model.   Numerous telephone calls with the Child Protection Department, meetings with the management of the home for abounded children in Bratsigovo, where Violeta was raised, a visit to the hospital, lead to a decision in the best interests of the child – she stays with his parents, and CPC “For Children and Parents” to support them in their efforts to take full care of their child.   While the child is at the hospital, Margarita works closely with the mother, together they draw a scheme for feeding the child, teaching her how to gently hug Iveta and recognize her needs. A lot of work was done in a short period of time, because another review was forthcoming, and it would be decisive for Iveta’s future. After a ridiculous incident with Violeta, which necessitated an emergency operation, the father took care of the child, again supported by our social worker. Margarita focused her efforts on supporting and building parental capacity in both parents and provided diapers and formula for the…

Foster Care made possible one more child’s dream to come true – to grow up happily in a loving home

By | Blog, Без категория | No Comments

One more child from our Forster Care Center found his new mom and dad. The 3 year old, Valentin, held tightly onto the hands of his new parents and embarked on his new life journey. Before the adoption, he was taken care by his foster mother, Dimitrinka Georgieva. She gave him her warmth and love, which worked miracles for him to overcome his abandonment in an institution, where he lived for the first one and a half year of his life.   Here is their story of our social worker’ point of view, Diana Petrova: “In November 2018, Dimitrinka took under her wings a scared sad boy, whose head was deformed from laying down, and feet – soft and crooked. The boy didn’t talk or walk. He ate only mashed puree food and had no teeth. After more than 18 months, locked under the walls of the institution, he went outside for the first time together with his foster mom. And he was afraid from people.   Dimitrinka, a true mother at hearth and a loving woman, has already helped with fostering three other children prior to their adoptions. When she came to take Valyo, she gave him a hug like he never received before and a basket full of toys – only for him. Together with our Foundation, Dimitrinka slowly started helping the boy to catch up with his development. She tough him to walk, eat, speak and love, again.   Valyo slowly started to relax and took his first steps, surrounded with a lot of love, patience and faith. He started feeling calmer and was encouraged to explore the world around, discovered the beauty of the nature, became friends with the family pet – a German Shepard called Harry, and learned many other unfamiliar to him things before. Slowly, he started speaking, and his first words were “mom”, “dad”, and “bow”. For half a year, in Dimitrinka’s family, the child caught up with his peers. He started going to kindergarten, made friends and blossomed. He turned into a happy charming boy, full of energy.   Then, Mariya showed up – the moment of destiny he has been waiting for. Mariya fell in love with Valyo from first sight and had no doubt that he was the child for her. Thus, they started their “get to know each other” meetings, where in the course of a month and a half, they spend time together each week in our foundation facility, another children playgrounds and city parks. They played together, went on walks and became closer each day. Mariya told him about her pet, her family and his future home.   During all this time, Dimitrinka was next to Valentin, to prepare him carefully for the change and reassure him that he can always count on her. She created a colorful album with some unforgettable moments they shared together, prepared his small suitcase, filled with his favorite clothes and toys, including the so loved teddy bear. She sent him to his new home, wishing him to grow up happy and strong, surrounded by the love of his new parents. Today, they often call Dimitrinka to share how Valyo is feeling, to talk about his progress or to exchange information and advice. Valyo is happy – his dream has now come true, having his own truly loving and caring family.”   “We went through very difficult times. Valentin was a sad and scared child that transformed completely. He is now smiling, a happy and playful young boy, who socializes freely and reflects the love and attention we gave him. I will miss him, but I am glad that he now has his real parents. I hope he grows up happy and loved.” shared Dimitrinka, who is one of the 25 foster moms, supported by our foundation.
