One more child from our Forster Care Center found his new mom and dad. The 3 year old, Valentin, held tightly onto the hands of his new parents and embarked on his new life journey. Before the adoption, he was taken care by his foster mother, Dimitrinka Georgieva. She gave him her warmth and love, which worked miracles for him to overcome his abandonment in an institution, where he lived for the first one and a half year of his life.
Here is their story of our social worker’ point of view, Diana Petrova:
“In November 2018, Dimitrinka took under her wings a scared sad boy, whose head was deformed from laying down, and feet – soft and crooked. The boy didn’t talk or walk. He ate only mashed puree food and had no teeth. After more than 18 months, locked under the walls of the institution, he went outside for the first time together with his foster mom. And he was afraid from people.
Dimitrinka, a true mother at hearth and a loving woman, has already helped with fostering three other children prior to their adoptions. When she came to take Valyo, she gave him a hug like he never received before and a basket full of toys – only for him. Together with our Foundation, Dimitrinka slowly started helping the boy to catch up with his development. She tough him to walk, eat, speak and love, again.
Valyo slowly started to relax and took his first steps, surrounded with a lot of love, patience and faith. He started feeling calmer and was encouraged to explore the world around, discovered the beauty of the nature, became friends with the family pet – a German Shepard called Harry, and learned many other unfamiliar to him things before. Slowly, he started speaking, and his first words were “mom”, “dad”, and “bow”. For half a year, in Dimitrinka’s family, the child caught up with his peers. He started going to kindergarten, made friends and blossomed. He turned into a happy charming boy, full of energy.
Then, Mariya showed up – the moment of destiny he has been waiting for. Mariya fell in love with Valyo from first sight and had no doubt that he was the child for her. Thus, they started their “get to know each other” meetings, where in the course of a month and a half, they spend time together each week in our foundation facility, another children playgrounds and city parks. They played together, went on walks and became closer each day. Mariya told him about her pet, her family and his future home.
During all this time, Dimitrinka was next to Valentin, to prepare him carefully for the change and reassure him that he can always count on her. She created a colorful album with some unforgettable moments they shared together, prepared his small suitcase, filled with his favorite clothes and toys, including the so loved teddy bear. She sent him to his new home, wishing him to grow up happy and strong, surrounded by the love of his new parents. Today, they often call Dimitrinka to share how Valyo is feeling, to talk about his progress or to exchange information and advice. Valyo is happy – his dream has now come true, having his own truly loving and caring family.”
“We went through very difficult times. Valentin was a sad and scared child that transformed completely. He is now smiling, a happy and playful young boy, who socializes freely and reflects the love and attention we gave him. I will miss him, but I am glad that he now has his real parents. I hope he grows up happy and loved.” shared Dimitrinka, who is one of the 25 foster moms, supported by our foundation.
