Hundreds of children and parents celebrated together with “For Our Children” foundation 25 years since its establishment.
Fun games for children and parents, hundreds of balloons, colorful kites, a unique cake, and delicious ice cream made the holiday in Sofia South Park unforgettable. Girls and boys had a sack race, learned the technique of walking pots, raced with inflatable donkeys, painted and decorated masks and crowns of Indian chieftains, played the tale “Grandpa Draws Turnip”, helped by the lovely Joanna Dragneva, sang and danced in the rhythm of the most famous children’s music songs. Special guests of the event were the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy Rositsa Dimitrova, the Ambassador of Great Britain H.E. Emma Hopkins, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus H.E. Stavros Avgoustides, our friends from the National Children’s Network, UNICEF and many of our partners and donors who have long supported the cause of the organization. The Board of Trustees and the Consultative Council also celebrated with us, played with the children and enjoyed the time spent with them.
“Our main joy is not the number of the children. Indeed, what we, from “For Our Children” foundation, do is a very important investment in the quality of life of those young people. Everything starts from early age, from early childhood. That is why the foundation continues working for the children to have a strong start in their lives since birth,” said Ivanka Shalapatova, Executive Director of “Foe Our Children” Foundation, who did not hide the team’s pride coming from the fact that “For Our Children” Foundation is one of the oldest and longest acting organizations in Bulgaria.
“With the help of “For Our Children” Foundation and other organizations from the nongovernmental sector, we managed to close down all institutions in the country for disabled children and a large number of homes for children deprived of parental care and homes for medical and social care for children aged 0-3 years by the end of 2015. We would not be able to manage without a partner like the “For Our Children” Foundation. Always stay positive, persevering and corrective of the government’s policy. Children and families deserve to support them.” said the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Rositsa Dimitrova.
We ran 25 kites for our 25th anniversary. We blew the candles together, ate a delicious cake, and dropped 25 red, green and yellow balloons in the air that flew along with our wishes of even more smiling and happy children growing up in a safe family environment.
We, from “For Our Children” Foundation, would like to thank to “Maska” Party Agency for providing good mood for all of our guests as well as our long-term partners from Right Rental.
For the past 25 years, “For Our Children” Foundation:
- supported and gave a chance for a better life to over 10,000 children and families.
- was the first in Bulgaria to support parents to prevent child abandonment at the maternity wards
- was the first to initiate and create the Foster Care service
- created the first municipal teams of social workers in child protection
- also piloted a model of a family home for short-term care for children who have no other alternative in Plovdiv and Sofia. We built our House, which gave love and care to nearly 30 children.
- stopped the existence of 3 homes for abandoned babies
Just for the first six months of 2017, 1098 children and families have trusted “For Our Children” foundation.
We have gained a lot of experience, we have invested a lot of energy, saved many children, and now we are looking forward to the next 25 years, in which we will inspire more families and will provide love, development and care for even more children.
