When the fairy tale becomes a reality…

By | Blog | No Comments

Vyara is one of the 13 children who, in the first nine months of this year, thanks to our team of Foster Care Center and our good cooperation with “Child Protection” department, have left their foster families and now live with their biological parents or are adopted.   A foreign proverb says that sometimes, just in the middle of ordinary everyday life, little love makes us live in a fairy tale…   It is the love the little princess Vyara receives from her foster mother and her new parents that shows her that the fairy tales she has listened to and the wonders in them can actually become reality.   Vyara is a beautiful 5-year-old girl, a smiling, sociable, sunny child. When she was 3, she was separated from her parents who could not take care of her and provide her with even the most basic things.   Then, with the support of the Foster Care Center of “For Our Children” foundation, she found comfort and support in the face of our foster mother, Maya Vazova, who has a lot of experience behind her – both as a foster parent and as a biological mother – she has raised two older children, a son and a daughter.   As soon as she stepped into her new home, the little princess experienced the first moments of her fairytale – she was bathed, fed, had her own toys, and did not lack care and love. And so two wonderful years passed by, in which happiness was their constant companion.   Because Vyara loves fairy tales, every day her foster mother told her stories about distant lands, magical beings and other beautiful princesses like Vyara, whose stories, despite numerous challenges, always end happily. And the beginning of the happy ending for Vyara began with the appearance of Maya in her life – a moment that predicted that good things are yet to come.   And, really, the happy ending is not late for Vyara – on a sunny autumn day, the Kolevi family arrived from a beautiful eastern Bulgarian city, with the desire to give Vyara what she has always dreamt of – her own family to protect her.   After many meetings in which they got to know each other and many fairy tales, the Kolevi family went home with the little beauty Maya, enchanted to be always together and love endlessly. And although the tale of the little Vyara has become a reality, we believe that she and her family will continue to have their magic moments of peace, love, and understanding.   Because only the power of true love can give the happy ending of every story.   In order to be able to continue supporting our foster families and developing foster care, which is the best alternative for children, left without their families, we need your support! Support us by DONATING for our project “Foster Care – security, development and happiness for the vulnerable children”, part of Raiffeisenbank’s “Choose to help” charity initiative. You can do this…

How one little man received big support

By | Blog | No Comments

Regularly at school, teachers ask children: “What weighs more – 1 kilogram of cotton or 1 kilogram of iron?”.   We can ask the same question for the little Kalin. Who is really small. Does his strong smile “weigh” more than him …?   Kiki, as his mother Velina and his father Kaloyan call him, is born weighing just over one kilo. But with his first breath, the little one showed everyone at the hospital that he is ready to fight … and with a smile.   The child spent two months in the prematurity department at the University Hospital in Plovdiv and, together with the whole medical staff and the love of his family; Kiki fought to gain weight, so that he can finally go home.   After leaving the neonatology, Velina, Kaloyan, and Kiki can finally be a real family. However, for them, the struggle continues, as the baby is not yet that fluffy baby, which every two-month-old child should be.   For six months, the three of them are doing their best to get Kiki to eat normally and fill his cheeks. But the task proves to be too difficult – the little one gains only 100 grams per month, which is far from enough.   Then Velina decides to seek support from a specialist and from the doctors at the hospital she finds out about Hristo Spasov – a kinesitherapist who works at the University Hospital in Plovdiv under the project “Care at early age”, implemented by “For Our Children” foundation. In addition to active activities, Kiki begins attending hydrotherapy sessions provided under the Early Childhood Intervention Program of the Community Support Center “For Children and Parents”. Free water activities are provided by a joint project of “For Our Children” foundation and the “International Women’s Club” foundation, which was launched earlier this year. Meanwhile, Kiki’s parents are also advised by our “Early Childhood Intervention” specialist, Nely Kaneva, who designs a special individual work program for homework so that the baby can increase weight even faster.   The results are not delayed. Only after 6 water therapy sessions within 1 month, Kiki gains 750 grams. Velina is amazed and expresses her sincere gratitude for, in her words, “the miracle that has happened”.   Our team in Plovdiv continues to support the little Kiki and his parents, who feel more and more relaxed every day and believe that their child will develop fully and grow into a strong and healthy boy. With the same strong smile. During the first nine months of 2018 “For Our Children” foundation has supported 339 children under the “Care at early age” project and 102 is the total number of cases of family support from the team at our Community Support Center “For children and parents” in the city of Plovdiv. We strongly believe that active social work, psychological support, and mobilization of different specialists are the main factors that help to recover from a situation of vulnerability and cope with difficulties in family life, as in the case of the little Kiki and his parents. That is why we do not stop providing direct support to children and families with an approach based on the needs and capabilities of the people we…

The little Anelia already has a mom, a dad, and an older brother

By | Blog | No Comments

Yet another child who we were taking care of at our Family type placement center “Children’s House” already has her own family. We sent the little Anelia in her new home together with her mother, father, and her brother – Andrey, who is more than happy to have a little sister.   Anelia was given to our childminders when she was really little – only two weeks old. Her mother left her at the hospital right after her birth and no one has looked for her since then. And so just until a few months, when the wonderful family of Daniela and Marin came to us and which with a lot of love and care will take care of her from now on.   For the 10 months during which we were taking care of her, Anelia became an energetic kid, with an attitude. Sometimes, because of her stubbornness, the babysitters were telling us that they felt like they were fighting with an older stubborn person, not with an infant. And the most she showed her stubbornness when they used to make a delicious but meatless soup – usually, the soup was all over Ani’s bib instead in her belly. The other children, even the older ones, also knew not to annoy her because otherwise there were going to be vociferous cries.   Thanks to the good and dedicated care of our team, Ani was developing normally and very fast learned how to turn on her belly and back and to crawl.   She is a strong and healthy child which has her own real family. A family which will give her… everything. Love, care, security, future… and a happy…

After a year and a half in institution Valio finally lives in a real family

By | Blog | No Comments

Valentin’s life didn’t begin in a normal way. The little one was born not in a hospital but in his home and was not welcomed with impatience and love, but on the contrary – he was denied by his father and became a burden for his mother; a burden with which she decided she could not and did not want to cope with. On the 20th day after his birth, Valio is separated from his home and lives in a home for medical and social care.   The first year and a half of his life, Valentin spends without from maternal and fatherly affection, away from a real family that gives him security and protection. The child makes his first steps without being celebrated, dealing alone with loneliness and lack of warm hug and love, and his home, his toys, his fate shares with many other children who, like him, have no one. Sad children with an even sadder present.   And so to this day. Today Valio has left the institution forever and entered Dimitrinka Georgieva’s home with many smiles  – one of our foster parents, who the team of the Foster Care Center of “For Our Children” foundation supports. Mother by nature and loving woman who has already given a new start to 3 other children who now live in their new family and have a happy childhood. She has a wonderful 10-year-old boy whom she spends a lot of time in nature with.   Dimitrinka welcomed Valio with a strong hug which he had not received so far, and a whole basket of toys – just for him.   We believe that with the love and tenderness of Dimitrinka and her family, Valentin will soon become a happy little boy ready to meet with his future mom and dad who will give him everything he missed during the first year and a half of his life.     Since the beginning of the year, “For Our Children” foundation has accommodated 15 children deprived of parental care into in dedicated foster families. By this moment, 33 children are enjoying complete care and love. The team of our Foster Care Center supports 35 foster families with trainings, psychological and material support, and gives the children the opportunity to work with rehabilitator, pediatrician, early childhood intervention specialist, who can help them fully…

A Prop at “Children’s House”

By | Blog | No Comments

Architect, journalist or just a rich princess…   These three fields are the ones in which the little Marielka from Family Type Placement Center “Children’s House” will be developing in. This is what her prop from yesterday showed and later it turned into a real children’s party, with many presents, sweets, and music.   Marielka is the oldest in the House and came to us immediately after her birth, just a few days old. Even though she doesn’t have a mother and a father, we gave her the love and safety every baby needs. Thanks to our babysitters, who take constant care for every baby in the House, today Marielka and the rest of the 5 kids are developing normally, smile and grow up happy.   Just recently we also celebrated the first birthday of our little pearl, we took a lot of photos which we put into a small album so that her future mom and dad to keep the memories from her first real home, with her first real family. The rituals, holidays, and traditions are an important part of everyone’s life, giving him those special moments which accompany him through his life path, since early childhood. And those moments can happen only thanks to his closest people – our relatives and family. The team of “For Our Children” foundation makes everything possible for the children at “Children’s Hose” to live those special moments. We bake bread, gather things, name them, name the best to the child on this day.   Everyone can help us to continue to be the fairy godmothers and to create these moments for our children. See how HERE….

How we helped two little sisters to find their happiness

By | Blog | No Comments

Sylvia, 1-year-old, and Irina, 1-month-old, are two little sisters, abandoned by their mother. They have never known their father and no one at the maternity ward has been nice to them and has not hugged and played with them. Their mother herself called “Child protection”, said she is not financially stable, can’t and don’t want to take care of the children. The people from ASA received information that they have other siblings who they have never seen and who, as newborns, are accommodated to relatives of the family.   Right after the specialist Marieta Bojanova from the Foster Care Center of “For Our Children” foundation got the signal for the sisters, she took over the case. She was surprised by the bad attitude the children had received as well as the lack of elementary care and low hygiene of the environment they lived in. Another problem was that the development of the older sister, Sylvia, was delayed for her age.   Since there was no foster family in which the two sisters could be accommodated together, they had been taken by two different mothers. By then, the children had no GP and the younger Irina didn’t even have a birth certificate. Right after the girls were accommodated in foster families, there was an immediate positive change – the girls were already chubby, had cheeks, smiled all the time and sincerely enjoyed their toys and the attention they got. They also have GPs, who take care of their health, and their foster parents make everything possible to catch up with the delay. Both of them are extremely sociable and like meeting other children and elders.   We, from “For Our Children” foundation, believe that the foster care is a chance for many children not to end up in the isolation of the institutions but to have a real family which gives them individual care, attention, and love. That is why we will continue to support Sylvia and Irina so that the two sunny girls can be adopted and have their loving family.       During the first 6 months of 2018, our Foster Care Center in Sofia supported 45 children, accommodated in our dedicated foster…

How a little hero can now stand on his feet

By | Blog | No Comments

Ivaylo is a little beautiful boy who was born in Plovdiv, and lives with his mother Gloria and his father Ivan. The parents were very happy when the baby came into their world, but right after his birth they found out that he has cerebral paralysis. The next 2 years he and his mother went to different doctors and specialists, who could potentially help Ivaylo. At the same time the relation between Gloria and Ivan was not good at all –they repeatedly separate and then get back together repeatedly. Ivan was working during the whole day and he rarely had the opportunity to support his wife and take care of his son.   The life of Gloria was full of challenges and most of the time she was very busy with her son, while the problems with her husband continued to grow bigger and bigger. Ivaylo’s condition was not improving, although he was going to a rehabilitation every week, and Gloria was at the end of her physical and emotional strength. She left the home of her husband, and rented a small apartment to live with her baby. Their financial condition was very bad, and going out was a struggle because of Ivaylo’s heavy specialized wheelchair.   Desperate and helpless, without any support from family and friends, Gloria went to the Child Protection Department for help. After specialists met with her and the boy, they told them about the Community Support Center of “For Our Children” foundation.   Out team immediately started working with them. Ivaylo started visiting hydrotherapy, which is absolutely free thanks to our joint project with the International Women’s Club foundation – “Better Life for a Child in Need”. 6 months later, Ivaylo’s improvement was obvious – his muscles started relaxing, and he can now stand on his feet by himself. For Gloria this was the happiest moment in her life – to see how her child is getting better, he is smiling and he is feeling calm. Little by little, hope was coming back to the mother’s heart. She hopes that soon she will see his first steps!   We, from “For Our Children” foundation continue to support Ivaylo and visit him and his mother in their home. We wish them lots of joy, and sunny days full of…

The little boy in the big world

By | Blog | No Comments

Only five and a half years old, Viktor has already gone through many problems. Born prematurely, with very low weight, he has to fight for his life from his first breath. During the first two months, he was seized in a cuticle in the intensive care unit for premature babies, and his closest people – his mother and father – could not be there with him.   When he came home, Victor had breathing problems and didn’t see well, he also suffered from a shortage of various vital substances. His parents lived through this very hard, both feeling frightened and guilty for the condition of their little boy. In spite of all the difficulties, they did not stop fighting and went with Viki to various specialists – doctors, rehabilitators, ophthalmologists, until finally one of them directed the family to the Community Support Center “St. Sofia” of “For Our Children” foundation. Specialists believe that with us the child will find the necessary support to make up for the lost, to acquire new skills and to overcome the fear of acquiring new children and communicating with his peers.   When for the first time the family met with senior expert “Early Childhood Intervention” Petya Uzunova, Viktor was already 4 years old, but he was often sick, and had to spend most of his time in different doctor’s offices and hospitals. The boy must learn to communicate freely, and his parents have a real need to share their problems with someone who will not only understand them, but will also find the right way to help them.   Already after the first meeting, Victor was assessed for overall development. He was involved in group activities, in music and art therapy, as well as healing rides, which had a great impact on him and he was no longer afraid of loud noises and other children. The most favorite activity for Victor is riding, and he shows a strong interest in horses. He loved to share his apples with them, and was not afraid to be near the animals. The family was genuinely happy when they see their little boy interact with another child and show a desire to share his lunch with him.   So far, Viktor continues to attend various activities of the Early Childhood Intervention Program in the CSC, and they have a positive influence on his development. The now grown boy is ready to meet the big world around him and, with the assistance of his closest people, to deal with fears and problems…

Mother’s love is stronger than anything

By | Blog | No Comments

On a warm summer night, the underage girl Tsvetelina and her friends decided to visit a nightclub in their neighborhood. The evening passed well for Tsvetelina, and this was mainly because she met the attractive Ivan. The youngsters fell in love quickly, and two months after their first encounter, they live together and with his parents. However, this only lasted for a month and a half, as the girl understood that her boyfriend was cheating on her. She went back to her parents’ home and found out that she is pregnant. She asked Ivan for help and support, but he didn’t have the desire and the opportunity to become a father.   At a moment of weakness, Tsvetelina began to hesitate whether to keep the child. She has always wanted to have at least three children who would grow up happy and loved. She shared her insecurity with her parents who fully supported her. Soon after she became aware of the pregnancy, Tsvetelina’s mother, Katya, contacted the Community Support Center “St. Sofia” of “For Our Children” foundation, looking for co-operation and hope. Support came quickly – our social worker Fickree Baydakova immediately started working with the insecure young mother, and together they overcome her fears.   In December 2017, Tsvetelina gave birth to a beautiful girl, which she names Milena. By her side at this emotional moment were all her relatives and friends, but also Fickree, who was making a lot of effort to teach Tsvetelina how to look at her daughter in the best possible way. Since the mother was not of legal age at that time and does not receive any income, we have provided her with everything necessary to take care of the newborn – diapers and bottles, bed, clothes and cosmetics.   Tsvetelina says she is grateful to our entire team for the support. She is happy to take care of the little Milena, and is sure that her daughter will grow as a happy child, loved by both her mum and grandparents. The specialists of the Community Support Center “St. Sofia” continue to follow Milena’s development as well as the way her mother takes care of…

The story of the little bird

By | Blog | No Comments

The famous American writer Robert Heinlein once said: “Being a mother is an attitude, not a biological relation.” Exactly this is the mission of the foster parent Krasimira Nanova – to be a mother.   Krasimira is one of the first foster parents of “For Our Children” Foundation, and she has already raised four young birds under her wing. She makes a lot of effort to see her birds spread their wings and fly, wile by her side are her husband and her big, fluffy cat – Petsy.   Just recently, Mitko came in Kraismira’s life. During his first year, Mitko lived with his biological mother, but because of financial difficulties and inability to take good care of him, he was placed in a Family type placement center. When the team from the Foster Care Center of “For Our Children” foundation found out about Mitko, they quickly arranged a meeting with Krasimira, so the boy may soon find his new loving family. She was impressed by his sweet smile and sunny little face, and immediately accepted Mitko in her home.   Mitko is now 1 year and 4 months old and lives with his foster family in a cozy atmosphere. He plays with his best friend – the cat Petsy and like a real gentleman puts his toys back in the basket and keeps his room tidy. Mitko started walking on his own and impresses his foster mother when he took his little spoon and stared eating his puree by himself. She now eagerly awaits to hear his first words. The boy’s foster father is an ex-photographer who loves to make photos for the family albums. Like a real model, Mitko proudly poses in Krasimira’s hands or with his cat Petsy. The eyes of the little bird are full of happiness and the reason for that is the good care and the unconditional live that his family gives to him.   Krasimira hopes that soon Mitko will be enrolled in the adoption register and he will find a good family that will continue to help the little bird make his flight in…
